Patricia Elizabeth Friedman

Patricia Elizabeth Friedman, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away just before her 92nd birthday on March 19, 2026. Patricia was born on March 24, 1934 to Robert Lee and Carrie Dodd and grew up in Odenville, AL as the middle child of 3 children. She graduated from St. Clair County High School in 1951 and was double promoted during her schooling due to scholastic ability. As a young woman, Patricia began a career as a dress buyer in the downtown Birmingham retail district and worked for major department stores in the Birmingham area, including the historic Pizitz. She once said that she knew well what others would want to wear and traveled often to New York City or other major cities in the U.S. to curate collections, with many stories shared over the years of fond memories from this time. Patricia married and had two sons by the late Martin S. Friedman, raising her children in Birmingham, AL and for a brief time in Hollywood, FL. Known as “Pat” to family and friends, she later built a cherished life in Trafford, AL where she enjoyed many years reading and working in the garden. Pat was a fierce advocate for those she loved and will always be remembered for her quick wit, humor, and spunk. Pat’s favorite role, however, was as a grandparent. She treasured her time with her grandchildren (and great-grandchildren) and loved being their “Granny Pat” and “Nanna,” never failing to miss a birthday or milestone. She was known for the lovely handwritten cards often sent to express her affection. Pat was a beloved grandmother whose grandchildren will miss her dearly. Patricia is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Lee and Carrie Dodd, sister, Barbara Dodd Spruiell, brother, Robert Lee Dodd, Jr., grandson, Tyler Friedman, husband, Marvin Parvin, and many dear friends. She is survived by sons, Marty Friedman (Lynn) and Michael Friedman (Ginger), daughter-in-love, Carolyn Hula (Steve), grandchildren, Michelle Belue (Mike), Erik Merrill, Jennifer Friedman (Janna), Stephanie Friedman-Simpkins (Rodney), Robert Friedman (Katie), Dustin Hula, Chad Hula, and numerous great-grandchildren. A funeral and life celebration will be held at Deerfoot Memorial Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 at 11 a.m., with visitation at 10:30 a.m., followed by a graveside service for the immediate family at Mt. Tabor Cemetery in Blountsville, AL.
